I've just begun to watch "the Wire" again from the very beginning. What's nice the 2nd time around is you know each character's destiny, and a lot of stuff hints to it in the early episodes.

I've also begun to delve into my bacon supply. Tahnks to Steve in Japan for sending me a 4-pack o' bacon from the famous Zingerman's of Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The first bacon I've tried is the Long Pepper bacon. According to the package,
Long pepper grows wild in Bali, and was the favored spice in Roman empire and American colonial cooking. It's wrapped around this hickory-smoked bacon form the Ozarks in Arkansas.

Appearance: The strips are long, thick and thin...with pepper sprinkled throughout. This is the most attractive looking bacon of the bunch.

The cook: Pretty quick. A little grapeseed oil, medium high heat. Was able to fit five slices on the pan. Not much shrinkage. Turned it over and turned off heat.

The look: remained thick and the fattiness is cooked enough to really enjoy

The taste: Very nice. The pepper is quite faint actually. Could probably be stronger, but I'm glad it doesn't overpower the taste of the bacon.

Score: On a scale of 1-10 (10 being best--though I wll never give a 10), I give it a 7, though this is subject to change as I sample more bacon.

In the meantime, my neighbor offered me a tremendous deal on a bike that is part pink!! How can I turn it down!!

Still waiting on the house, though...

We're having some serious computer troubles, so I haven't be able to update my other website: http://www.kchronicles.com Sorry!

I would like to say that PC stands for Personal Coputer so when you ask for a mac your really just asking for another PC (as you called a" piece of crap") I also like to piont out that macs are typically more exspensive that windows operating computers.

P.S. Knight Life is one of the best comics in our local newspaper

Keef!

I'm a regular reader of your strip and have all of your books and CDs (some autographed, thanks!). In the time I've been following your strip, I went back to school to be an RN, a job that was supposed to be recession-proof, and yet I'm shaking in my shoes hoping I can find a job when I graduate in June.

Anyway, to the point: I'm broker than broke at the moment (Toys for Tots helped make our Christmas happy this year), but so help me, when I graduate and God willing get a sweet job making enough money that I can use my ex's child support to truly spoil my daughters, I will be sure to throw a little something your way. In the four years since my divorce you've been a gentle constant, reminding me that life is never all that bad.

Be sure to post another wish list next year!

*KEEF WISH-LIST UPDATE!!

Thank you-thank you-thank you to Beth who sent me the Wire:the Complete Series on DVD!! You have a special place in my kingdom when I boldly take over the planet in 2012!!

Okay!! So the Wire is crossed off the list and, according to the email of the week below, I'll be getting some bacon , too!!

*EMAIL/LETTER OF THE WEEK:

Hey Keef,

I just wanted you to know that I am a regular reader of your strip on
Salon and you always bring a grin to my face. I am currently living in
Osaka Japan but during the holidays, my thoughts wander back to America,
where I stay current with my trusty computer.

If you are serious about your christmas wishes, I would like to turn
you on to some really fine, down home, bacon the is sold by an amazing
deli called Zingerman's in Ann Arbor, MI, where I used to live and go to
school. Their applewood smoked bacon is great as are all their other
offerings. Tell me where to send it and the bacon pigs will take flight
to your abode. I'm serious! I can't spring for the Bacon of the month
membership: that's just a bit too rich for my blood, but how about a
pound or so of some righteous bacon for the holidays?

Let me know if you are serious and I will make it happen.

Sincerely,
A fan,

S., Osaka, Japan

YOU'RE DAMN RIGHT I'M SERIOUS!! SEND THAT BACON OVER!!
This isn't the Bacon of the Month membership, so I'm still hopin' to score one.
